Marquench Oil M
Oil Based Quenchant
Description
MARQUENCH OIL M is a clear, dark amber colored product designed to provide maximum cooling rates for austenitized steels. It is an accelerated quench oil designed for application temperatures between 250 to 350°F (121 - 177°C) and can be used as a quench media for austenized parts at temperatures as high as 1750°F (954°C). Its formulation guarantees good stability due to its accelerator package which will not stratify out at any temperature nor can it be filtered out. The use of this hot oil is commonly encountered in carburizing and carbonitriding furnaces or in operations where parts are prone to distortion and cracking. The accelerated cooling rate during the first stages of quenching enables the user to produce uniformly well hardened parts, while the higher operating temperature of the quenchant slows the cooling rate during martensitic transformation.
Key Properties
- Designed specifically for high-temperature applications, such as carburizing and carbonitriding furnaces. It supports quenching for austenitized parts at temperatures as high as 1750°F (954°C). The oil features an accelerator package that enhances its cooling rate during the initial stages of quenching, which is crucial for producing uniformly hardened parts with minimal distortion and cracking.
- Operates optimally within a temperature range of 250 to 350°F (121 - 177°C) and maintains a high flash point over 435°F (224°C), ensuring good thermal stability and safety during high-temperature operations. The formulation includes an anti-oxidation agent, enhancing its stability and preventing the accelerator components from stratifying or being filtered out.
- A clear, dark amber colored oil with a viscosity greater than 74.0 cSt at 100°F. This viscosity level contributes to its effective heat transfer capabilities and influences its quenching characteristics, particularly in terms of cooling curves and the prevention of part warping or distortion.
- Proper maintenance of Marquench Oil M includes centrifuging or filtering to manage sediment levels and de-gassing to remove absorbed gases that can lower the flash point and potentially create fire hazards. The oil should be protected from water contamination, as water can significantly disrupt its quenching properties and increase fire risk.
