Wastewater Treatment

Coagulants are added to wastewater to eliminate charges keeping materials in solution and to combine
small suspended solids into larger particles which can easily be separated from the wastewater solution.
DuBois offers various coagulants to aid in clarification, emulsion-breaking, and metal removal.

Flocculants are long-chain polymers that aggregate coagulated solids into larger masses to aid in solids
removal from wastewater. Flocculants are used in many wastewater processes including clarification, oil/
water separation, heavy metal precipitation, sludge dewatering, and phosphate removal.

Metal Precipitation products work to precipitate heavy metals from wastewater solutions, allowing the
wastewater to be discharged below municipal requirements for metal concentrations. The DuBois product
line can be used to treat hard-to-remove chelated metals, and results in reduced sludge generation
compared to other treatment programs.

Thickeners and Filter Aids are process additives which aid in the removal of solids in operations such as filter presses, vacuum belts, pressure leaf filters, vacuum tubes, and rotary vacuum filters. These products
are effective in applications such as oil splitting, metal removal and clarification.

Demulsifiers are used to break both water-in-oil and oil-in-water emulsions. Often, these additives are used
as part of a “cook operation” designed to maximize oil recovery.

Odor Control is a specialty segment of wastewater treatment. Odor control products can be misted into
the air to combat odors or can be added directly to the liquid phase at the odor source. Maskants work
to cover an offending odor with a more pleasant smell. Counteractants and reactants work by either
physically or chemically reacting with the odor to eliminate it.
