Alu-Braze® 860

Lithium Chloride Based Salt

Description

Molten salt baths are generally recognized as the ideal media for brazing many aluminum assemblies. Dip brazing is widely used in the fabrication of such items as heat exchangers, antennas fixed on satellites, wave guides and aircraft parts. Aluminum dip brazing salt operations offer many advantages over other methods.

These include:

  • QUALITY - Strong joints are produced without harmful stresses or distortion.
  • EFFICIENCY - Rapid heating rates to optimal brazing temperatures
  • ECONOMY - Inexpensive equipment requiring little floor space.
  • VERSATILITY - Assemblies of various sizes and shapes can be brazed simultaneously in the same bath providing selective brazing advantages.

Key Properties

  • Alu-Braze® 860 has a melting point of 860°F and a working temperature range of 900 - 1200°F, making it suitable for a variety of brazing temperatures.
  • It has a density of 106 lbs./ft³ at 950°F and a specific heat of 0.27 Btu/lb. °F, which affects its heat transfer characteristics and how it behaves in the brazing process.
  • The salt is white with nil vapor pressure, indicating it does not vaporize easily at typical working temperatures, making it stable and safe to use in controlled environments.
  • Offers better fluidity, greater stability, ease of cleaning, and freedom from sludge compared to other fluxes, enhancing the brazing process's efficiency and quality.
  • Requires careful handling due to its molten state, with specific storage conditions recommended to maintain its properties and ensure safety in its application.
